Monday, October 20, 2003 NEW YORK--When the Marlins recorded the final out in Game 1 of the World Series Saturday night, catcher Ivan Rodriguez and closer Ugueth Urbina met between the mound and home plate for the normal postgame handshake. But Rodriguez, perhaps so excited by the victory and by Urbina's clutch performance, planted a kiss on the right-hander's face.
It was a little unusual. It wasn't exactly Madonna making out with Britney Spears, or as showy as Isiah Thomas kissing Magic Johnson before tipoff.
And not everyone saw it.
"I'm sorry I missed that," Marlins manager Jack McKeon said, adding, "If we get the win, I don't care who they're kissing."
