oh, people are just ridiculous. i can't count the number of times i've gotten into the sex-pistols-as-corporate-whores debate. i can see every side of it. yeh, they were created by a man with a vision; they were created as advertisement for a fucking clothing store. but actually, the claim that they didn't learn to play their instruments until later is unfounded. sid couldn't play a fucking chord to save his life when he first joined, but then, he wasn't in the original sex pistols crew. johnny and the rest all played their instruments. maybe not well, but they knew how to play. and the fact is, if malcolm mclaren hadn't taken control of the band, they never would've made it anywhere. and i think it's safe to say that the world, for me at least, would've been a sadder place sans the sex pistols. so fuck the eternal debate. they were punk as fuck and reached a better audience than anyone else and before then, no one'd had the balls to even try.
