He was in the commercials. Trust me.

I can't speculate on whether or not he's coming back to the role, but that's the standard Cabaret comercial that gets played all the time. I got it in Cleveland when the tour came through, and God knows Alan wasn't in it. *G* TV ads for musicals generally use footage for years and years past when the cast might have left. Aida recently came through, and they used footage with the original cast. And I've seen the exact same comercial for Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables the last three or four times the tour's come through. Much cheaper to do it that way, instead of reshooting every time.

No problem! But isn't it a horrible tease? Still, it's the closest I imagine I'll ever get to seeing Alan play the Emcee, so I'm mostly grateful. *G*

Sadly, it's terribly expensive to make a video of a Broadway show. It's why it doesn't happen very often. The most recent one I can think of is Jekyll & Hyde, which was probably put on video in large part due to the fact that Baywatch's David Hasselhoff was starring at the time (and likely put in a good chunk of money towards the filming expenses). And since there's already a Cabaret movie (albeit one that veers from the play by quite a bit, as I understand) there's probably less interest in making a video or movie than in, say, RENT.

Which basically means that I have to stick to the ads if I want to see Alan as the Emcee. *pouts*
