Stephan Bender

who was the young Clark Kent in Superman Returns

will be playing the role of Nathan in the movie adaptation of

(which is a love story between two boys, for those who don't know.)

This is behind-the-scene pic from the set last year:

I think that's "Roy" on the left and the guy in the green jacker is one of the boys Nathan and Roy go camping with in the story.

The movie is currently in post-production per the IMDB. It's directed by James Bolton, the writer-director of Eban and Charley and The Graffiti Artist.

I've never read it! What's it about if you don't mind me asking?

There's a rather lovely clip of The Graffiti Artist on youtube, but I've yet to see the entire film..

This looks great though. Thanks for the good news!

OHMYGODIJUSTFLAILED. This book flayed me -- and it's oh god. I'm incoherent. (But! The Graffiti Artist was great, imo, so I'm quite pleased it's a director whose previous work I liked.)

Thank you for posting this! *grinning madly*

The book is one of my favourite gay themed novels, though I wonder how they are ever going to do it justice? The ending especially, how CAN they convey that? Thanks for the info.

No, I didn't know until I googled for more info about this forthcoming film adaptation then discovered there had been a play too. I'd like to hear more about that, as it could work extremely well on stage, with the immediacy and intimacy of theatre vs. film. It is such an intense story, beautiful yet so terrible.

Wait, what? That summary throws me. How did he get that from the ending? I was confused when I read it but it seemed more mysterious than anything. But he sounded so sure! Can someone explain that to me and what I'm missing?

Isn't that part of what makes this novel so amazing, that the ending is open to different interpretations, as I believe was Grimsley's intention? This is one of my main fears about the film: I don't think I could stand it if they remove that option by giving a definitive version rather than holding to the book's ambiguity and sense of wonder.

I review books and would NEVER spoil one like that!
