Is Jake Gyllehaal really gay? Or just loves to boytouch ?

In the new New Weekly ( NW ) magazine here in Australia, on page20-21 there is a two page article on jake and his aparant denial that he is gay, yet the magazine reckon he is, just because he has a habit of hanging out with guys all the time when he is pictured and also that he likes to hug and sometimes kiss them on the cheek in hello and goodbye. What gets me is that, judging by how these women are writing the article, unless a male celebrity is said to be banging a new chick every other week and is dating someone as well, not to mention turn up at awards with a blonde bimbo, he MUST be gay.

Now, I don't mind if Jake is gay, or not, but it must be annoying for him to be not be able to hang out with guys all the time now after doing Brokeback Mountain, and now being accused of being gay. It is the worry of this that stops many a straight male from being affectionate to other men in public, and in doing so stiffles their ability to be emotional and affectionate with their female partners in the future. All I can say is kudos for jake for being his own guy and doing what seems to come natural to him, and In think it has stemmed from the fact his own Dad was very open and affectionate to him when he was growing up, so it just comes naturally to him.
The article goes on to list many dates and times Jake has been with guys, noting that since he broke up with Kirsten Dunst there has been no serious relationship of the female variety in sight, not to mention that on

Interestingly also, his sister Maggie has added fuel to the gay rumors while on Martha Stewart's tv show Martha. When asked by Martha if Jake, a cooking fan, had ever met Jamie Oliver ( who was on the show at the same time ). Maggie giggled and replied that the pair had never met, but added Jake would love to because Jamie's a 'sexy young chef.'. It's just funny how she makes a point of saying Jake would like to meet him as he is 'sexy', not seeming to care Jamie is a male. Would have loved to have seen Oliver's reaction to that.

So the jury is still out on whether Jake Gyllenhaal is actually gay, or just loved the boytouching. What do you guys think? Just naturally affectionate with other males, or maybe there is more to it than meets the eye?

Having said that, the girl does look a bit...mannish, so who knows? :D

Whether he's gay or not, it doesn't stop him from being a terrific actor. Being gay certainly hasn't impeded Sir Ian Mckellen's career--playing straight characters, may I add--and it shouldn't stop Jake either.

Actually there was a show on E! where they brought up that gossip from US Weekly and the E! guy actually knows Gretchen (the olympic snowboarder) and said that the rumor is completely false and that she already has a boyfriend who is most definitely not Jake.

I think it's really sad that a) people speculate so much over someone's sexuality and b) that if someone is gay in Hollywood there is still a lot of pressure to not come out.

That's my main point really, that he is a guy who seems to be naturally affectionate with his mates, yet he probably feels he can't be that way because he is afraid it will be read as a sexual thing that many men think a touch like the one's jake gives could only mean. It's this type of attitude that makes boytouching so elusive these days and in these times, and I hope that by seeing how open jake is with his affection for his friends, more blokes will see it is okay to show your love for your fiends and family by showing as well as telling them you love and care for them.

yeah I agree with you totally. Sorry I just re-read my comment and realised that it may have sounded like I was having a go at you for speculating over his sexuality by making this post, I didn't mean to.
I was just agreeing with you that it's sad that unless someone has a steady girlfriend or a big publicised sex life then they must be gay. And it's just so silly that it matters at all really.

Personally, I wish he was gay just because it would be nice to have a good looking guy like him be out. Really, though, I wish it was a non-issue so he could be out if he is gay or be affectionate with his friends if he isn't gay...I wish we could just be who we are and not be ashamed of it regardless if we're gay, straight and affectionate, or bi, or transgenered, or whatever.

jake did an interview in Details a while back where he talked about being straight, but wouldn't be "scared" to be in a gay relationship. the articles's from December 2005 in case you want to read it.

yup. *digs out the issue* I thought this was the most interesting philosophy he had:

I guess just because it seems like this is a plausible situation for himself. He could consider himself straight, but when it comes to love, it doesn't matter who he's in love with. the rest of the article made me fall in love with him *sigh* i say, let the guy do whatever he wants. geez, who cares?

I actually attended a lecture by a psychologist and an anthropologist once, and they talked about how sexual identity is different from sexual orientation. That it is possible for someone to identify themselves as straight, and yet feel love and a physical attraction for someone fo the same sex.

That article just reminded me of that. :D

haha yeah i was talking to someone who just moved into the Castro in SF and how one of her roommates was once married, but is now in a long term relationship with a guy. Sexual identity and orientation are such complicated things. im just glad jake seems to be happy with whatever he does/feels because there are lots of people who aren't. so... umm... good for him? ^^

Heh, I agree. I mean it won't affect me one way or another what his sexuality is. But yeah quotes that he has given in interviews do make it sound like he falls for the person not their gender/sex. So whether it's a man or a woman doesn't matter to him, it's all about who they are as a person.

I might be in the minority, and I wish I was wrong, but I don't think he's gay, I think he's just a very sexual, affectionate person who doesn't care about sexuality stereotypes. I had a friend that kissed me every time he saw me, and straight as an arrow.

It doesn't really matter if he says he's gay, straight or bi. Anyway, Judith Butler (sex philosopher) said that everyone is gay and just forced through heterosexual institutions.

Or maybe Jake (and his publicist?) knows that acting out like that gets him lots more attention. And everybody knows no publicity is bad publicity, because at least people are still talking, aye? Besides, it's a pretty much tried tested and true strategy used by a lot of Japanese musicians and anime artists. It gets the girls going, and we are usually the selling demographic for any media.
