Ian McKellen: Some of them were angry that a gay man was playing Gandalf. They called it Gandalf the Gay and were opposed to my casting. They’re ignoramuses who don’t know about acting. I sometimes look at slash material on the internet, same-gender sex stories usually written by young women. They write about Legolas and Aragorn getting it on.

TW: Do you read Gandalf slash?
IM: Well, I’m quite a fan of pornography. I think it’s a very good idea. I think it stops people from going out and hurting each other.

TW: What shocks you?
IM: Newspapers are full of it. That Russia isn’t going to ratify the Kyoto agreement is shocking.

Oh, there was an article a year or so ago in Premiere magazine where the whole LOTR cast was talking about reading slash they'd found on the net and getting a kick out of it.

The only thing that shocks me about McKellan is that he looks so much like my dad. Rather disturbing for me. *G*

I also love how open he is. He has no worry about how he'll appear to other people. He just is who he is, and says what he thinks, and that's so rare in Hollywood. Because I can't think of any agent or publicist that would say, "Ian, you're a hot, sexy, big gay old wizard!! Push that in the media! Oh, and make sure to discuss your love of porn. Discuss it LOADS."

So it's very cool to see a homosexual man free to behave and act in the way he pleases. Not over-pretensious, faux-straight, or like, Will and Grace. He just is who he is.

I feel so many homosexual actors can behave in certain ways that they might not necessarily want to behave in. So many young stars, gay or bisexual, feel they have to push the 'bisexual' side and assure everyone they are not gay.

I remember in an interview with Adam Brody, he mentioned how him and that other guy's character on the OC that had tension they had to resolve, but he was so quick to say, "I mean, they're not GAY, or, or anything like that!"

I dunno, I'm just ranting.
