In addition to what [livejournal.com profile] hyacinthus posted about the upcoming film adaptation of Dream Boy here I have found the movie's official myspace which has some more photos.

I hope that this adaptation will be wonderful, but honestly I cannot recommend the book enough, it's incredible. It's by Jim Grimsley and I think everyone should read it before the film is released :)

I don't know if it was you who recommended the book, or someone else on the last post, and I am too lazy to go back and check - but the book has just plopped through my letterbox! I'm looking forward to reading it...

I agree, people would be advised to read the novel before seeing the film. It has haunted me since I finished it a couple of years ago now. I'm not sure what to think about this news about the film adaptation. However if it sends people to Grimsley's original (and his other work) that has to be good. I've read very many gay themed novels but only two have affected me like Deam Boy.

The book was very well done, but oh my gosh. I feel like my grandchildren are going to be ten years dead before we actually get a movie based on a gay-themed book with a happy, positive message and ending. Sigh. Why has cinema moved _backwards_ from when "Maurice" was made? I'm tired of movies to kill myself by, I swear.

I couldn't help but feel it had a kind of triumphant, bittersweet end because of the dreamlike, poetic way Jim Grimsley wrote it.

My sentiments exactly, and thank you for the wonderful post!

Beautiful Thing (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115640/) (1996) has a happy ending, IIRC - it's a while since I've seen it, but I remember it as well-made.

Technically, it was based on a play.

Ooo, this movie looks interesting. And damn it, it's about time for some more gay themed movies!

PS: OMFG I ADORE THE VEILS <33333333

Aww, my stupid library doesn't have that book! And I'm too poor to order it from anywhere but I have read Comfort & Joy and loved it.

I loved Comfort & Joy as well, very good book.

My library didn't have it either. Yesterday I made a book request for it on the site, and today I received an email that said they ordered it! Check to see if your library's site has that, or you should ask an employee.

Hmm... that would give me an excuse to talk to my library-guy crush.

Stupid exams. I won't have time to read the book :[ *Sniffs*. Thanks for posting these pictures though. Would you mind telling me a bit about what it's about, please?

I've been away... and THIS is such a good post to come back to ;)
I've been anxiously waiting for stills to show up since I first learned about the film so thanks for finding them!

Oh you're welcome. I try to do my bit in spreading the love ;)
But seriously... I've given it as a gift at least twice before. I love it that much or something.
