In addition to what

hyacinthus posted about the upcoming film adaptation of Dream Boy here I have found the movie's official myspace which has some more photos.

I hope that this adaptation will be wonderful, but honestly I cannot recommend the book enough, it's incredible. It's by Jim Grimsley and I think everyone should read it before the film is released :)

I don't know if it was you who recommended the book, or someone else on the last post, and I am too lazy to go back and check - but the book has just plopped through my letterbox! I'm looking forward to reading it...

I agree, people would be advised to read the novel before seeing the film. It has haunted me since I finished it a couple of years ago now. I'm not sure what to think about this news about the film adaptation. However if it sends people to Grimsley's original (and his other work) that has to be good. I've read very many gay themed novels but only two have affected me like Deam Boy.

The book was very well done, but oh my gosh. I feel like my grandchildren are going to be ten years dead before we actually get a movie based on a gay-themed book with a happy, positive message and ending. Sigh. Why has cinema moved _backwards_ from when "Maurice" was made? I'm tired of movies to kill myself by, I swear.

Yes I understand what you're saying. I wrote a thematics essay last year on the representation of homosexuality in Hollywood and it was pretty depressing.

Saying that, depsite the obvious tragic and depressing ending of Dream Boy I couldn't help but feel it had a kind of truimphant, bittersweet end because of the dreamlike, poetic way Jim Grimsley wrote it.

Beautiful Thing (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115640/) (1996) has a happy ending, IIRC - it's a while since I've seen it, but I remember it as well-made.

Technically, it was based on a play.

Aww, my stupid library doesn't have that book! And I'm too poor to order it from anywhere but I have read Comfort & Joy and loved it.

I ordered Comfort & Joy the other day and am looking forward to reading it. I hope you get a chance to read Dream Boy soon, it'll really be worth it.

I loved Comfort & Joy as well, very good book.

My library didn't have it either. Yesterday I made a book request for it on the site, and today I received an email that said they ordered it! Check to see if your library's site has that, or you should ask an employee.

The basic premise is Nathan (the dark haired boy) has moved to the house next to the farmhouse where Roy (the longer haired boy) lives. It is established very early on that Nathan's father is an alcoholic who abuses Nathan. Roy (who is two years older and drives the school bus) and Nathan soon strike up a friendship which in turn develops into a sexual relationship. I won't ruin anymore, as when you get the chance you really should read it :)

I have been non stop recommending it to people since reading it, and no doubt it will be gifts for friend's upcoming birthdays, it was pretty much amazing. I ordered Comfort and Joy the other day, I hope it's good too.
