I feel like my grandchildren are going to be ten years dead before we actually get a movie based on a gay-themed book with a happy, positive message and ending.
Beautiful Thing (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115640/) (1996) has a happy ending, IIRC - it's a while since I've seen it, but I remember it as well-made.
